C.A.N. Art Handworks has called Wilkins Street in Eastern Market home for over 34 years. The organization has been operating inside a 10,000 sf warehouse. Carlos Neilbock is the the founder of the organization and holds the title Master Metal artist. He envisions C.A.N Arts Handworks as a space to educate and foster the metal working arts ecosystem in the community. This Masterplan study looks at the the future of CAN Arts Handworks by building on the organization’s existing assets and its connection with the community.

The key components of this study include: Building from the Existing Space and Site; Generating  Opportunities to Expand; Recognizing Opportunities to Scale Up; Integration with the Greater Eastern Market Master Plan; Identifying Strategic Partnerships; and Exemplifying Innovation and Sustainability. By using these guiding principles, the study highlighted new programs focusing on education, art, and sustainability. These new programs would be phased strategically over time as they require additional interior space. With the district adopting new zoning laws, the study also looks at additional new development opportunities and partnerships that in turn could help to maximize the potential of the overall campus.
